The path of relentless challenge
built by Daechang

Since its founding in 1974, Daechang Group has recorded strong and sustained profitability and grown into a global mid-sized company over the past 50 years.

Daechang led the localization and technical advancement of brass products in Korea through milestones such as the first domestic development and mass production of copper anodes for PCB plating and the establishment of its R&D center in 1988. In 1997, the company succeeded in developing and commercializing PCB plating copper anodes that had previously depended entirely on imports, creating an import substitution effect worth around KRW 10 billion annually. The R&D center also expanded the competitiveness of Korea’s brass industry through advanced technology adoption and collaborative university-industry research investment.

The company continued to invest aggressively for growth. In 1995, it invested approximately KRW 100 billion to build a brass manufacturing foundation with automated melting and drawing facilities imported from Japan and Germany. In 2003, it added indirect extrusion equipment and expanded annual brass bar production capacity to 144,000 tons. With production capacity equal to 52% of total domestic output, Daechang secured a position as the world’s fifth-largest brass bar producer with a 3% global market share.

Additional achievements included securing a USD 36.5 million investment from the International Finance Corporation in 1998, establishing Daechang Seowon Copper Alloy Trading in China in 2004, and expanding sales of eco-friendly lead-free brass for smartphone camera rings used by global companies to 1,300 tons per year, or around 50% of global demand. These achievements helped the company win the “USD 300 Million Export Tower” award in 2008.

ESG management that responds
to a changing era

Daechang has also maintained active communication with relevant institutions as a representative Korean mid-sized enterprise. It participated in the 2008 committee promoting mid-sized enterprise legislation and the 2013 National Assembly policy relay discussions on the Mid-sized Enterprise Act, and contributed to the enactment of the law and improvement of related systems in 2014.

The company has responded quickly to broader social and industrial change. As ESG management became more important in the 2020s, Daechang advanced a smart eco-factory program, minimized factory pollutants, expanded inverter-based furnace dust collection systems with an investment of KRW 2.2 billion, and reduced air pollutant emissions by 40 percent. On the social side, it recognized retirement age at 62 to extend employment stability and actively promoted CSR initiatives for local community development and future talent cultivation.

Since its 50th anniversary in 2024, Daechang has continued to grow as one of Korea’s representative non-ferrous rolling companies, exporting brass bars to more than 20 countries and operating 11 affiliates. Since entering the brass materials market in 1974, the company has helped write the history of brass in Korea.

Products made from brass may not always be visible, but they are used throughout daily life in nearly every sector. Having localized the brass materials that quietly support everyday living, Daechang is built on the principle that trust rooted in honesty is the company’s greatest asset. Through continuous investment and persistent effort, it now leads both the copper and copper alloy industry and the broader basic materials sector with world-class quality.
